My Government Agency of the Year - 2016

Image
Something happened on the 27 th  of July, 2016 that marveled me to a point that I was wondering if I was still in Nigeria. At about 10pm while trying to keep tab with all that happened at the office when I got home, I put a call through to my friend and colleague, Joshua Ekeh to get update on things, and I was bumped by the emergency he had at hand. Apparently a lorry fell down with a pregnant woman and her husband inside. He told me they were trying to save the couple’s life when I called. He asked me if I know any SOS or emergency number I could call to respond to the distress at hand. I reluctantly said yes, because of the nonchalant attitude some of these agencies are known for. I however, scroll through my phone and called the Lagos Emergency Service number, with a faith that was nothing close to the size of a mustard seed, because really I was not expecting much from them. But I got my first shock when I dialed the number. Before I could s...

Cities in Nigeria: Lagos

Image
Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, sprawls inland from the Gulf of Guinea across Lagos Lagoon. Victoria Island, the financial center of the metropolis, is known for its beach resorts, boutiques and nightlife. To the north, Lagos Island is home to the National Museum Lagos, displaying cultural artifacts and craftworks. Nearby is Freedom Park, once a colonial-era prison and now a major venue for concerts and public events. Beaches line the Lekki Peninsula running east from the city, while inland, the Lekki Conservation Centre offers wildlife and trails. The National Gallery of Modern Art shares a building with the National Arts Theatre, and showcases works by Nigerian artists. Local arts and crafts can be found at colorful Lekki Market, and at private galleries across the city. North of the center, the life of Lagos musician Fela Kuti is celebrated at the Kalakuta Museum. To the west, the town of Badagry contains sites and museums documenting the town's history as a slave p...

The Enigma called Linda Ikeji

Image
Yes! Most of us might not totally agree with her trade, model, strategies or values, but one thing has kept this lady, one thing has proven true about her, is that those who stand for something will always prevail over those who stand against it. For a very long time most people have stood against her brand, wasting energy on a route that is against the way nature works, while she stood for what she believed in, and today she just dealt another blow with…  https://www.lindaikejisocial.com/ A social network site like Facebook and the rest, yes Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook perhaps if that didn't sink well. Now you know that this babe is not smiling right. She mean BUSINESS my dear. She is rocking global now if you must know, not local. Huughh???!!! The lessons for me, and I believe for many out there is that don’t waste your time standing against what you don’t like or believe in, instead stand for what you like and believe in, that is how the universe runs. If yo...

The Reverse Pilgrimage... YES WE CAN!

Image
When the Nigerian tech community experienced a reverse pilgrimage… All I see is the awakening of the "YES WE CAN" spirit among the young people in this side of the world, in times when many believe the economy is in recession. #ThankYouMark, because #WeStillHaveADream and #ISeeOpportunities only. I have decided to see the opportunities, not because of the regular cliché of being positive, but based on facts and figure, it is definitely this facts and figures that attracted Mark to Nigeria. Of course, we can’t deny the fact that Nigeria been the largest market for Facebook in Africa with over 18 million accounts, it’s only natural that Facebook take Nigerian market serious. Truly it was a reversed pilgrimage as the norm would have been that the tech community and entrepreneurs in Nigeria sought Mark and other key tech players in Silicon Valley, instead the reverse became the case, as Silicon Valley (with the presence of Facebook point man) came to Naija. No doubt Ma...
